Expedia Slashes One Key Rewards for Vrbo Stays Starting May 22nd

Starting May 22, 2025, OneKeyCash earnings on Vrbo bookings will drop for lower-tier members:

  • Platinum & Gold: Still earn 2% back
  • Silver: Drops from 2% to 1%
  • Blue: Drops from 2% to 0% — no rewards on Vrbo stays

The One Key Rewards program lets users earn and redeem points across Expedia brands — Vrbo, Hotels.com, flights, car rentals, and more. But the program’s been under fire lately for sloppy execution and underwhelming rewards.

This latest update hits the lowest tier hardest, cutting off all VRBO earnings for entry-level members.

Here’s how tiers work:

  • Blue: Default for new members
  • Silver: Earned after 5 “Trip Elements” in a year
  • Gold: 15 Trip Elements
  • Platinum: 30 Trip Elements

*A “Trip Element” includes any flight, hotel, Vrbo, car rental, activity, or cruise booked through an Expedia-owned brand.

Bottom line:

Guests who book fewer than 5 trips a year will no longer earn rewards on Vrbo unless they have other qualifying Trip Elements. This could influence booking behavior among price-sensitive Vrbo guests.
